I never recommend my clients to let their dogs sleep in their beds. Dog’s saliva, urine, and feces may contain a number of zoonotic infections. And they will inevitably get into your bed. Hence allowing the dog to sleep with you may lead to a huge spectrum of accidents.
Reason 1: Lethal diseases
Dog is a very curious animal that goes outdoors regularly. It can be a carrier of a range of lethal diseases such as: COVID-19, rabies, staphylococcus aureus and others. For the sake of justice I should mention that the chances of lethal outcome are low.
Reason 2: Other diseases
Also you can get a number of viral and bacterial diseases such as gastroenteritis or salmonellosis. Vomiting, diarrhea and temperature may become the price you could pay for sleeping with a dog.
Reason 3: Parasites
A dog can bring the mites, fleas or ticks into your bed. These parasites may carry a number of infections. And even if they don’t – their bites will ruin your sleep.
Reason 4: Allergies
Even if you are not allergic to dogs, your pet is still exposed to a number of allergens. Bringing the dust, pollen or mold to your bed it will provoke your allergy.
Reason 5: Quality of sleep
Sleeping with a dog is a bad idea even if you completely disinfect it every time before going to bed. You and your dog have different sleep cycles. Also your pet may have a restless leg syndrome or it can make disturbing sounds. This will affect the quality of your sleep.
At the end of the day I just want to say that you can get close to your in many other ways. Your pet will be much happier if you regularly take it for a walk, train it and play with it.
Also, this list would not be complete without the positive sides of sleeping with your pet:
-It can keep you warm;
-It can make you feel safe and protected;
-It can provide companionship.
